
Taking besifloxacin (Besivance)
Dear Patient,
Your health care provider has prescribed besifloxacin ophthalmic suspension for the treatment of your eye infection. This drug treats infection by preventing bacteria from reproducing. The brand name of this drug is Besivance.
How you'll take besifloxacin
You'll instill this drug into your affected eye three times per day, 4 to 12 hours apart, for 7 days. To instill the drug:
- Invert the closed bottle and shake it once.
- Remove the cap, keeping the bottle inverted.
- Tilt your head back, and with the bottle inverted, gently squeeze the bottle to instill one drop into the affected eye.
What to do if you miss a dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Don't try to make up missed doses. Don't take more than three doses a day.
What to do about side effects
Notify your health care provider if you experience side effects to this medication.
Less common: conjunctival redness, blurred vision, eye pain, eye irritation, itchy eye, or headache.
What you must know about other medications
Tell any health care provider who takes care of you that you're taking this drug.
Special directions
- Thoroughly wash your hands before and after instilling the drug.
- Avoid wearing contact lenses while taking this medication.
- Take this medication exactly as prescribed for as long as prescribed, even if you're feeling better.
- Don't share washcloths or towels with other family members to avoid spreading the infection.
Keep in mind
- It isn't known how this drug could affect an unborn baby. Consult with your health care provider if you're pregnant.
- Notify your health care provider if you experience allergic reaction, rash, conjunctival redness, blurred vision, eye pain, eye irritation, eye itchiness, or headache.
