NEW WARNING
The Food and Drug Administration has announced that they’re requiring a boxed warning for the antidiabetic drug rosiglitazone (Avandia). Citing studies and noting the possibility of increased risk of MI and angina in patients taking this drug, the following passage has been added to the black box already indicating an increased risk of heart failure. “Patients with type 2 diabetes who have underlying heart disease or are at high risk of heart attack, should talk to their health care provider about these risks and other treatment options.” Health care providers should carefully monitor any patient with risk factors for heart disease who are taking this drug.
