NEW WARNING
Pfizer has issued a "Dear Doctor" letter to share new safety information regarding their inhaled insulin, Exubera. New trials have shown an association between Exubera use and the occurrence of primary lung cancers. All of the patients diagnosed with lung cancer had a previous history of smoking and a causal link has not been established between Exubera use and the development of lung cancer. Exubera has very limited availability and health care providers have already been advised to seek alternative treatments for their diabetic patients. Those still transitioning from the drug or others should be aware of this new safety warning.
