Stomatitis from chemotherapy

Stomatitis from the use of chemotherapeutic agents generally involves the oral mucosa. Symptoms may be mild or severe and debilitating.
   Tell the patient to begin preventive mouth care before the start of chemotherapy in order to decrease the severity of symptoms.
   Provide therapeutic mouth care, including the use of topical antibiotics.
