Nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy

The occurrence and severity of nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapeutic drugs vary with the drug and individual patient.
Instruct the patient to avoid fatty and greasy foods; to eat small but frequent meals; to avoid unpleasant sights, tastes, and odors; and to consider music therapy.
Watch for electrolyte imbalance, offer a clear liquid diet in cases of severe vomiting, and plan on administering an antiemetic for 3 to 5 days.
